Johnson Kabera is the Managing Partner at Crest Law. Before joining the firm, he worked as a state prosecutor for six years starting in the year 2000, building a formidable command of criminal procedure, evidence, and advocacy.
He is a Fellow (FCIArb) of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London — a distinction held by very few Rwandan practitioners. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Law from the National University of Rwanda (1999) and has obtained numerous certificates, including a Certificate in International Trade and Development (Trade Policy Training Centre for Africa, Arusha, Tanzania, 2010) and the Certificate course for Associate membership of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (2011).
Johnson trains prosecutors and judges at the Institute of Legal Practice and Development in Nyanza across disciplines including gender-based violence, professional ethics of advocates, and pleading techniques. Between July and December 2009 he was engaged as one of the consultants to draft 15 Ministerial Orders implementing the Law Regulating Labour in Rwanda. He has participated in high-profile arbitral tribunals both as counsel and as a party-appointed arbitrator, and is a member of the Training and Ethics Committee of the Kigali Bar Association and the East African Law Society.
